We are proud to announce this year we’re sponsoring No.8 Riley McGree! McGree signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with EFL Championship club Middlesbrough on 14 January 2022; and made his debut for the club on 12 February.

A huge congratulations are in order for Riley who has been selected once again for the Australian squad, the 2022 World Cup is to be held at Qatar starting on the 21st November. For the first time ever the Premier League will halt in the middle of the season to accommodate a winter World Cup.

Gateshead Ochre Yards Development Named Best in UK at Prestigious UK Property Awards

Ochre Yards, Mandale’s Grade II Listed city living conversion development in Gateshead has been named best residential renovation/redevelopment in the UK in this year’s prestigious UK Property Awards.

The development is located on the former 19th Century Greensfield Railway Works site and sits on Gateshead’s iconic Quayside.  It scooped the highest 5* rating for Best in the Region for Renovation/Redevelopment and went on to compete against other regional finalists in the category to win Best in the UK. Ochre Yards was also an award winner in the Residential Development of 20+ units category.

Delivering much needed accessible housing to an area in great need, the development combines city living with beautiful heritage, situated within a Grade II Listed building and comprises 59 apartments, the majority of which are duplex. Aimed at working professionals, young families and couples, Ochres Yard includes 36 duplex apartments and 23 other apartments of varying size. 

The scheme includes secure cycle storage for 44 bicycles; plus 18 bicycle stands; 59 EV charging points and parking spaces one for each apartment with 13 parking spaces for visitors. 

The UK Property Awards were judged by an independent panel of over 80 industry experts and focused on design, quality, service, innovation, originality and commitment to sustainability  In their 29th year, the awards are the largest, most prestigious and widely recognised programme throughout the UK.

The company now goes through to the next stage, the International Awards and is nominated for the Best in Europe.  Winners will be announced at an Awards ceremony at the Savoy Hotel in February 2023.

Macmillan Coffee Morning at Mandale

Last Friday, our Head Office took part in the nationwide Macmillan Coffee Morning to raise some vital funding for those living with cancer.

Staff participated by getting stuck into some home baking with an enormous amount of goodies such as cheesecakes, Christmas cakes, brownies, quiche, corned beef pies, cookies and more!

As well as incorporating a dress down day, most of us were rolled out the door on our way home, so all in all a great day of fundraising!

We raised a grand total of £392.10 for Macmillan Cancer Support!

High Energy Costs Could Mean Savings of 59% If You Buy New Build

The cost of living is ever increasing, and many households are struggling with their monthly bills. Energy prices in particular have soared and are the hot topic in the news. Everyone is looking for ways to reduce bills, for many they have no option but to wear extra layers of clothing in the house and limit the time the heating will be on. With Autumn having arrived and winter following shortly after the general consensus is one of worry and apprehension at the impending increase.

Mandale Homes proudly comply with modern building regulations, providing energy efficient homes that benefit not only the environment but our home-buyers running costs too. Here at Mandale we use modern heat-loss-prevention technologies such as roof insulation, double glazing, energy efficient boilers and water-saving systems. We also only fit A rated energy efficient appliances and lightbulbs in our homes. Furthermore, on some select developments we often integrate renewable energy such as solar panels, energy storage solutions and air source heat pumps.

According to the HBF new build homes tend to carry much higher EPC ratings than existing dwellings. For the dwellings logged in the 12 months to September 2021, around 84% of new builds are rated A-B for energy efficiency, while just 3% of existing properties reached the same standard.

What does this mean for your bills?
The more energy efficient your property is the lower your household bills will be. The HBF found heating bills are on average £666 per dwelling per year. For new build homes, heating bills were 59% cheaper, costing an average of £271 over the 12 months and totalling a saving of £395.

In total the yearly bills for owners of older properties was £890, almost twice as much as the annual bill for a new homeowner which was £455.

The HBF report was compiled in March 2022, since then we have suffered further increases and energy caps have come into effect to help with the cost-of-living crisis however the facts remain, new build homes reduce household bills significantly and investing in new build has become even more attractive to buyers as they consider financial implications and reducing carbon emissions.
