Climbing to success!

Our very own Harriet Spalding, Investment Sales Manager climbed her way to success as she raised over £5,600 for the Teesside Philanthropic Foundation by trekking up Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro.

Mandale Group are patrons of the Teesside based charity and kindly funded Harriet’s kit so that all money raised through sponsorship would go directly to the Teesside Philanthropic Foundation and to those that need it the most in the local area.

I was proud to do this for such a great charity, even more so now I have recently become a trustee.

After six long days of battling with altitude sickness, exhaustion and temperatures plummeting to minus 20 degrees the 5,895m summit was reached, although the eagerly anticipated high wasn’t quite as expected

When we reached the top I didn’t even feel elated, I just felt physically drained. The sense of achievement didn’t hit me until I got back down

In the build up to the expedition, long weekends were spent walking around the North York Moors, Roseberry Topping, Captain Cook’s Monument, Carlton Bank, Clay Bank and parts of the Cleveland Way but nothing could quite prepare Harriet for the gale force winds and freezing temperatures she encountered from the start “it was so cold that even my drinking water froze”.

Looking back, I can’t believe I actually did it. I don’t think I’d have made it to the top if not for thinking about the charity and the people depending on me

Without a shadow of doubt, it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done but despite everything, it was the most amazing experience and now I have had time to reflect and recuperate I’d recommend it to anyone who fancies a big challenge, and we’re both so grateful to our family, friends and colleagues for their generous sponsorship.

Everyone here at Mandale is really proud of Harriet and her excellent achievement!

Find us in the Telegraph Business Club

Mandale Homes are proud to be featured by the Telegraph Business Club! We were approached by the Telegraph and the Filmmakers earlier this year and filming took place in June.

The Telegraph Business Club is ‘a selection of videos describing the work of companies in their ‘Masterclass’ series, together with clips from business leaders and owners talking about setting up and running your own business.’

The film gives a fantastic insight into the Mandale Group, and offers a little bit more information on who we are and how we work.

Donation helps community group transform local playground

Mandale Homes has donated £1,200 to the fundraising campaign that is improving the local park and play area at Shelf Hall Park.

The money has helped to modernise and fund new facilities for the popular wooded park, which was locally acknowledged to be in need of restoration and improvement.

The contribution from us, who is currently building a new development of 13 family homes in Shelf village, brings the fund’s total to £11,000, raised from a combination of local open days, fundraising events, personal contributions from the community, as well as donations from other local businesses.

David Dixon of the Shelf & District Community Group said:

We are really grateful to the team at Mandale and everyone else who has pulled out all the stops to reach such a fantastic total. This has made a real difference to a valuable community asset, helping us to restore it and improve it so that it becomes the vibrant, well cared for place that the people of Shelf deserve.

The group carried out a community survey in order to find out what new improvements local residents would most like to see in Shelf Hall Park, and “improve the play area” and “attract more wildlife” were among the most popular requests.

Working with Calderdale Council and the NHS, the community group has already installed a fitness and agility trail for adults and teenagers, put up nest boxes and seeded a wildflower meadow which is now in bloom.

The money raised is also funding a series of further improvements over the summer, including the installation of interactive play panels for younger children and thermoplastic markings for games such as hopscotch, transposed onto the park’s tarmac.

The 13 new three and four-bedroom houses that are taking shape at our Valley Close site in Shelf will be home to families with children and we’re really pleased to be able to do our bit to help ensure that Shelf is a great community, with fantastic facilities for everyone.

Dragon Boat Champs!

With Saturday 2nd July came mixed weather. The morning was grey & breezy, but that didn’t stop the Mandale Mighty!

Daisy Chain, a fantastic local charity providing support for families with children suffering from autism had their annual dragon boat race at Tees Barage on Saturday. This year was the first year that Mandale Homes entered a team. Call it beginner’s luck, or call it natural talent (the team have split opinion on this) but we came home this years’ champions!

Below is a picture of the winning team with their prizes… A plaque that is currently sitting proud in the office, and a voucher for a white water rafting experience at the world class Tees Barage! They managed to raise over £400 for this fantastic cause. Fancy dress was encouraged at this event, so how else would we dress up other than as what we do best – builders!

Well done team – now just to defend the title next year!
